DAVIS, Calif. — A rookie police officer died after being shot in northern California by a suspect who later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities mentioned.
Davis Police Division officers mentioned 22-year-old Officer Natalie Corona was shot after responding to a 3 automobile visitors accident at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday in the neighborhood west of Sacramento.
Corona was rushed to UC Davis Medical Heart in Sacramento, the place she later died.
CBS Sacramento experiences Corona was sworn in as an officer simply two weeks in the past. She adopted within the footsteps of her father, Merced Corona, who labored in regulation enforcement. She graduated from the police academy in July.
Following the taking pictures, police issued a citywide shelter in place order as officers looked for the suspect, who was later present in a home close to the taking pictures after a short standoff.
Police mentioned they have not recognized the suspect or decided what prompted the taking pictures.
Davis Police Chief Darren Pytel instructed reporters Corona was “a rising star within the division. … I’ve heard her described by our officers tonight as our daughter, our good friend, and only a sister that all of us needed. That is simply a completely devastating loss to the police division.”
Corona is survived by her dad and mom.
