Davis, Calif. — A rookie police officer died after being shot in northern California by a suspect who later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities stated. Davis Police Division officers stated 22-year-old Officer Natalie Corona was shot after responding to a three-car site visitors accident at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday in the neighborhood west of Sacramento.
Corona was rushed to UC Davis Medical Heart in Sacramento, the place she later died.
CBS Sacramento reviews Corona was sworn in as an officer simply two weeks in the past. She adopted within the footsteps of her father, Merced Corona, who labored in legislation enforcement. She graduated from the police academy in July.
Following the capturing, police issued a citywide shelter in place order as officers looked for the suspect, who was later present in a home close to the capturing after a short standoff.
Police stated they have not recognized the suspect or decided what prompted the capturing.
Davis Police Chief Darren Pytel instructed reporters Corona was “a rising star within the division. … I’ve heard her described by our officers tonight as our daughter, our pal, and only a sister that all of us needed. That is simply a fully devastating loss to the police division.”
Corona is survived by her dad and mom.
On Wednesday evening, one other rookie officer in Shreveport, La. was shot useless as she left to go to work.had simply graduated from the police academy in November.
